“Seeing the Lion: From Epidemiology to Digital Health in Search of Transformative Change in Early Childhood Mental Health”

Abstract: In this lecture, Dr. Egger will review her work in the science and practice of early childhood mental health during each of the decades of her thirty year career. From jokes early in her career that early childhood mental health involved “putting babies on couches” to advances in the nosology and methods for multi-modal assessment to application of machine learning and computer vision analytics to longitudinal data and video data to the decision to leave academia to co-found a venture-backed digital health start-up–Dr. Egger will bring this journey to the present where she will highlight current opportunities to continue to advance early childhood developmental psychopathology and to translate science into tools and care models that can scale and meet the needs of young children and their families.

“Getting Ahead of the Curve: Responding to Emerging Data Management Plan Requirements”

In early 2023, NIH will be implementing new data management plan regulations. Penn State faculty are invited to a panel presentation and discussion around these changes. Panelists include Rocco Zinobile, Director of Grants and Contracts, the College of the Liberal Arts, and Briana Ezray Wham, Research Data Librarian, Research Informatics and Publishing Department, University Libraries; Rick Gilmore will moderate. This presentation is part of the CSC’s Open Data and Developmental Science (ODDS) Initiative.

CSC Innovation Hub Symposium 2022

“Leveraging Systems to Improve and Expand Child Sexual Abuse Prevention”

Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a public health concern of considerable magnitude, affecting 1 in 5 females and 1 in 10 males. CSA is associated with a host of consequences including mental and physical health problems, relationship difficulties, revictimization, drug and alcohol addiction, teenage childbearing, and sexual dysfunction conferring a lifetime economic burden estimated to exceed $9.3B. Annual incidence rates in the U.S. have plateaued over the past few decades—an indication that prevention efforts are in need of innovation. The focus of the CSC Innovation Hub Symposium 2022 will involve leveraging large public systems – such as the child protective service system or the school system – to extend CSA prevention efforts and reach both universal and high risk audiences. Applied examples of how various systems have been useful launching points for primary prevention, as well as the implementation challenges for doing so will be presented and discussed with respect to impacting evidence-informed policy and practice.
