Abstract:

The Central Pennsylvania Maternal Health Coalition brings together healthcare providers, community-based organizations, public health professionals, and other regional partners to collaboratively address maternal health needs across Central Pennsylvania. The Coalition aims to improve maternal health and reduce maternal morbidity and mortality by strengthening regional collaboration, supporting the maternal health workforce, expanding access to reliable information and resources, engaging communities, and advancing strategies informed by the Pennsylvania Maternal Mortality Review Committee (MMRC). Coalition activities include educational opportunities for healthcare and community-based professionals, resource mapping and dissemination, community-informed initiatives, and efforts to strengthen connections among organizations serving pregnant and postpartum individuals. Particular attention is given to communities experiencing barriers to accessing high-quality maternal healthcare, including rural communities and populations with limited access to services and resources. Through shared learning, coordination, and capacity building, the Coalition seeks to reduce gaps in maternal health resources, improve awareness of available services, and strengthen the capacity of organizations across the region to meet the needs of pregnant and postpartum individuals.
